I knew early on that I wanted to teach and coach. Growing up, I was inspired by incredible football and basketball coaches who instilled more than just a drive to win. They modeled the truth that while winning is great, the real victory lies in the life lessons learned through sports—discipline, perseverance, and attention to detail. That mindset of structure and excellence lit a spark in me and set me on a path toward greater challenges and purpose.

After high school, I enlisted in the Active Duty Army and served for eight years, including two deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan. Those years shaped me in profound ways. I experienced the world, served alongside remarkable people, and developed deep leadership skills. My faith was not left behind—I carried Jesus with me into every mission. The foundation laid by my parents, who prayed with me as a child, stayed strong, and I knew God’s presence was with me even in the midst of war. An amazing Army Chaplain showed me what ministry in action looked like—not only serving our country but also discipling soldiers and being a steady spiritual anchor.

After completing my military service, my life entered a new season of family and faith. I have been married for 11 years, and my wife and I are raising three children together. Leadership has taken on a new form in my home, as my wife and I strive to be yoked in Christ and to lead our family with His wisdom. The call to teach and coach has never left me, but today it comes with a deeper perspective, shaped by faith, service, and the responsibility of being a husband and father.

Now, I am grateful to be living out this calling as a Character Coach at Mattoon High School and through ministry at Emerald Acres Sports Connection. Coaching athletes has become about far more than plays and points—it is about pouring Jesus into the lives of young people, helping them grow in faith, integrity, and transformation. Looking back, 25 years ago I dreamed of teaching and coaching. Today, God has blown me away by allowing me to do both—and more—by teaching, coaching, and ministering all in one calling. To Him be the glory. Amen!
